Kyle's Kitchen

After a few weeks of fancy benedicts and herbed omelets, baked goods, French press coffee and mimosas (lychee!) - we were craving something a bit simpler... Kyle's Kitchen in the Berkeley neighborhood of Northwest Denver fit the bill.
We've been coming to Kyle's since back when it was "Mom's," and you used to be able to smoke in the restaurant (and we did!). It's a better place now - and even though a lot has changed, you still come for the same reason - good comfort food and the familiar, friendly staff and customers.

It was packed, as it usually is,  so we took two stools at the counter and ordered some coffee.

Dean ordered Mike's Meat-N-Cheese omelette, swapped his potatoes for fresh fruit and his toast for a short stack.  I got the 1/2 Basic, with dry wheat toast and also fruit for potatoes. Ordering is a pleasure with rapid fire questions from the waitress.  "How do you want your egg?" (over medium).  "What kind of toast?" (wheat).  "Dry, or buttered?" (dry).  "What kind of meat?" (bacon, crispy).
A rare moment of quiet in the kitchen
Kyle's is a regular's place. People know each other and are friendly.  We heard snippets of conversations that seemed like they'd been going on over the course of at least many months.  There were inside jokes and hand slaps on the counter.  Laughter.
The food came and everything was tasty.  The eggs and the pancakes were highlights.

We sipped our coffee, read a bit of the paper, chit chatted with folks, and had a good breakfast.  It was nice to be back at Kyle's where even if you're not a regular, you still feel at home.
